Sustainability

With the full support of the Mississippi Department of Education,

Studio School will be a replicable model. We have the support and encouragement from our state leaders. We are doing something new and necessary in our state and we are operating in partnership with the state’s largest IHL. Since increasing graduation rates is one of our state’s main public school goals, Studio School model has significant replicability power.  Local schools across the state and region could establish studio schools by partnering with industry and businesses in their local communities to provide real-world STEM content.  The Studio School model is cost effective, and once established, can be self sustaining with local district dollars. We have generally calculated the per pupil costs after the first five years of operation to fall between the amount districts typically pay for regular education students and the amount districts typically pay for special education students. Students who drop out cost districts and communities much more.

Studio School partnering LEAs commitment as demonstrated in partnership letters is to continue

Studio School long past the initial five-year funding period. LEAs are planning to offer start-up money in January 2008, and plan to provide the per pupil expenditure dollars upon the opening of Studio School.
