Oktibbeha and Noxubee County School Districts have committed to instituting pilot studio-based learning classrooms in their middle schools in spring 2009. Schools to be participating are B.F. Liddell Middle School in Macon, MS, East Oktibbeha County High School in rural Oktibbeha County, and West Oktibbeha County High School in Maben, MS. The three classrooms will be made up of approximately 25 students at each school, and will be selectively offered to middle school students who can benefit from the engaging hands-on design work and collaborative atmosphere that studio-based learning provides. Preparation for the opening of the classrooms will include professional development workshops for participating teachers during the summer, and curriculum development during the fall semester.
